Like many Eastern European countries, Czech women are considerably ranked among the highest when it comes to beauty. This attribute attracts many western men as Czech women are very feminine, fashionable and very slender. But when you start dating Czech women, what are the basic things to avoid, to make a good impression? Here is a short basic list on where to start.
What Not To Do When Dating Czech Women
Don’t #1: Offer your hand in a gesture for handshake.
In the western world, a handshake is the norm when meeting a person for the first time. But for the Czech, the proper greeting is a kiss on the cheek. Offering your hand for a handshake might come across as too business-like and for someone pursuing a romantic interest, this is not the air you are going for. A quick peck on the cheek will be better when greeting among friends. Shaking of hands may be appropriate when you are leaving and only among men. But the peck on the cheek is more acceptable.
Don’t #2: Buy expensive gifts. (Expensive being more than 15 USD)
When visiting a friend in Prague, small gifts are an expectation. A bottle of wine for the men, flowers for your hostess or date, a box of chocolates perhaps, any small token to pay homage to your host. But be aware that giving a gift that is too expensive might come across as you trying to buy the affection of the lady you are visiting, or might come across as a tad bit cocky. When things take a turn for the more serious, then little expensive gifts become acceptable, but never in the early stages.
Don’t #3: Give even number flowers and chrysanthemums.
Flowers are expected on any occasion, especially on dates. A single rose or a bouquet of tulips will be much appreciated. And a lot of other beautiful flowers are available as gifts. But keep in mind to keep the number of flowers you give odd numbered. This is because, like most Eastern European countries, even numbered flowers are usually given during funerals or are dedicated to the dead. Same goes with the chrysanthemums. Mums are beautiful, but in Prague, they are usually flowers given for the dead.
Don’t #4: Dress casually.
Men in Prague, similar to their women, value appearances. They dress well even just to do regular tasks. They only usually dress casually for sports and barbecues. When going on a date, especially on your first date, dress well. Dress in a smart, business-casual like way. Dress in well fitting, pressed clothes showing that you put in an effort for the date. Also, make sure you are well groomed and a hint of a musky perfume should finish off your look.
Don’t #5: Go Dutch.
If you truly wish to impress a Czech lady, pick up the tab. She might offer to pay, but it is of the traditional sense that the man pay, among other things. Though, your chivalry should not stop there. In dating Czech women it will earn you good points if you offer to take her coat, open doors for her, and seat her in the restaurant. Chivalry might no longer be in widespread practice anymore, though this is one sure-fire way to impress your Czech date.
